Discover Diverse Culture in Southwestern China

Standard DreamTrip
Visit distinct villages preserving the ancient culture & customs of ethnic minority people in Xishuangbanna, marvel at picturesque landscapes — including a tropical rainforest! — stroll through a lively night market & so much more. Book by October 10.

About Your Trip

Pack your camera and get ready to make memories to last a lifetime as you journey through Southwestern China. You’re sure to be impressed as you immerse yourself in a world of ancient customs, gorgeous landscapes and historical attractions!

Your adventure begins in Menghai County, where you’ll visit Daluo Port at the southern tip of the Xishuangbanna Dai autonomous prefecture, and the place where China and Myanmar (formerly Burma) meet. Continue to Mengjinglai Scenic Area, a small, picturesque village with a well-preserved traditional culture. You’ll get a glimpse into the intangible cultural heritage of the Dai ethnic minority of China before moving on to Guangmang Mountain for a brief walking tour. End your day in Jinghong with a visit to the vibrant Gaozhuang night market, known for woven handicrafts, clay tea pots and authentic street food.

The following day, you’ll explore other ethnic minority villages, starting in Qingkou. The village is comprised of indigenous Hani people, a group whose culture and history are defined by legends, proverbs and mythology. This place is also home to the UNESCO-protected Honghe Hani Rice Terraces — an agricultural hillside marvel borne out of ingenuity and perfected over the ages. Then, at a village within a tropical rainforest, you’ll experience the traditional way of life of the Manmeaini people and learn how to harvest pineapples the way the locals do before returning to your welcoming resort for some downtime on your own.

Ready for one more exciting outing? Your final daytrip takes you to Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, which features the sights and scents of tropical flowers, ornamental plants and more. You’re off next to Xishuangbanna Dai Ethnic Group Garden, a community made up of 5 Dai villages, offering another wonderful opportunity to further explore the customs and traditions of ancient Dai culture.

What we love:
• A great photo op, the border marker at Daluo — one of the numerous inscribed monuments in the country — honors the border agreement between China and Myanmar.
• In your free time on Day 3, you can hop aboard your resort’s shuttle to downtown Jinghong for attractions like night markets, cafes and souvenir shops or simply relax at the resort — the choice of fun is all yours.
• To maximize your enjoyment, download the DreamTrips™ app to access DreamTrips Local — then earn points on dining, entertainment, spa experiences & more at select spots recommended by DreamTrippers just like you!
